ElderMinder Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 23, 2026
ElderMinder ("the App", "we", "us") helps seniors ("Elders") stay connected with trusted people who look after them ("Keeprs") through simple check-ins. Protecting your privacy is central to what we do. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your name and email address, and store your chosen role (Elder or Keepr), your avatar color, the date you accepted our Terms of Service, and the date your account was created.
Connections. We store the links between Elder and Keepr accounts so that check-ins and responses reach the right people. These connections are created only by the account holders themselves.
Check-in data. We store the check-ins sent between linked users, including the message, the response ("I'm Safe" or "Need Help"), and the times they were sent and answered. Elders' check-in schedule preferences are also stored.
Location data (optional). If an Elder turns on location sharing, we collect the device's location (latitude, longitude, an approximate street address, and a timestamp) and share it only with that Elder's linked Keeprs. Location sharing is off by default, requires the Elder's explicit permission both in the App and at the iOS system level, and can be turned off at any time in the App's settings.
Notification token. We store a device push-notification token so we can deliver check-in prompts and responses to your device.
We do not collect health records, financial information, contacts, photos, or precise location from Keeprs. We do not sell personal information to anyone, and we do not use your information for third-party advertising.
How We Use Your Information
- To deliver check-ins between Elders and their linked Keeprs
- To send push notifications for scheduled check-ins, reminders, and responses
- To show Keeprs an Elder's most recent check-in status and, if sharing is enabled, their location
- To maintain the security of accounts and diagnose technical problems
Who Can See Your Information
Your check-in responses and (if enabled) your location are visible only to the people you have chosen to link with in the App. Other users of ElderMinder cannot see your information.
Service Providers
ElderMinder is built on Google Firebase, which processes data on our behalf: Firebase Authentication (sign-in), Cloud Firestore (data storage), and Firebase Cloud Messaging (notifications). Google processes this data under its own privacy commitments, described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy. Approximate street addresses are derived from coordinates using Apple's geocoding service on your device.
Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from inside the App: open your profile, tap Delete Account, and confirm with your password. This is immediate and permanent — it removes your profile, your last shared location, your check-in history, your connections to Elders or Keeprs, and your sign-in credentials. There is no way to recover a deleted account.
If you would rather not use the App, you may instead request deletion by contacting us at the email address below; we will delete your data within 30 days of a verified request. In either case we may retain information where we are legally required to.
Your Choices and Rights
- Location: turn location sharing on or off at any time in the App or in iOS Settings
- Notifications: manage or disable notifications in iOS Settings
- Connections: unlink a Keepr or Elder at any time
- Deletion: delete your account and all of its data from your profile screen in the App
- Access and correction: contact us to request a copy of your data or correct inaccuracies
Depending on where you live (for example the EU/EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional legal rights over your personal information, including the rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data and to object to certain processing. We honor such requests regardless of where you live. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
Security
Your data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored in access-controlled Firebase services. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.
Children's Privacy
ElderMinder is not directed at children and is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Important Note About Emergencies
ElderMinder is a check-in and communication tool. It does not contact emergency services and is not a substitute for emergency response, medical monitoring, or professional care. In an emergency, always call your local emergency number.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the App or by email before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when this policy was most recently revised.
